Why We’re Here

Legislation, rules and executive orders:  The Trump administration and now Republican-dominated Congress have been rolling them out — and rolling them back — at a dizzying clip. This leaves little space for constituents to contemplate the consequences of changes being made to our government’s policies.

Some of these consequences may be permanent, and devastating.

We have created this website to keep track of events—legislative, executive, judiciary— that pertain to our nation’s environmental laws, from the National Environmental Policy Act to the Clean Water Act to The Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977. We recognize that the rights of nature are also human rights, and thus fundamentally non-partisan: No one, regardless of party affiliation, wants to breathe toxic air or draw from a polluted well.

If governments derive their power from the consent of the governed, as the Declaration of Independence stipulates, then it’s incumbent upon the governed to know what they’re consenting to.

We welcome your insights and comments.
